Although Corrin looks unique, I'm salty about another FE character. Also salty that Midgar lacks J-E-N-O-V-A as a song choice.

However, I am glad we are getting more content. Although I didn't vote for Bayonetta, or want her really, she makes sense and looks like she will be extremely fun to play with. (Also glad that her reveal wasn't another Kid Icarus character). Her stage also looks super cool. Want to know what else looks super cool? Nomura's illustration for Cloud.

Characters with swords are common in videogaming in general, so, as Smash is a celebration of (Nintendo mostly) gaming, they are likely to appear in lots.
And about counters... I'd much rather yell at Lucario or Greninja for having those. Fire Emblem uses countering as a super relevant game mechanic, so it's an intentional design element (like StarFox characters having reflectors). But the latter two have access to a much wider array of moves which could have been used instead of counters, and the attacks they were given as counters ARE NOT EVEN COUNTERS IN POKEMON.




This character came in 2001, for a game that wasn't even released in America. And people LOVE HIM.
The only reason people are not salty abour Roy is because in 2001 nobody had access to complain about him online.

Corrin wouldn't be as bad if not for the fact western fans have no idea what the damn character is like especially if they have no cares for the FE franchise. this feels like a cop out to get more people to buy FE:fates.

And like you said 19Fold nobody had access to the internet to complain about Roy which i doubt they did. but that was also back when the FE franchise was basically unknown to the Western gamers. Now FE is well known they don't need to do this to get people more interested in Fates. and making people pay for it is even worse.

DLC is optional, downloadable content, advertising a game which is going to be released in America. I don't care about Corrin and I'm not going to pay for him. Even if I disliked Corrin I could just ignore the DLC altogether and stick with characters I like.

Roy, on the other hand, is an unlockable character which I don't care about for a game which has no DLC, advertising a game that was never released outside Japan. I'm required to play him to unlock characters in Melee which I could care more about (like G&W). If I disliked Roy I would have much more of a reason to hate him in Melee, as he would be a character in my copy of the game despite me not liking him at all.

(Well, this much more of an argument against unlocks in games anyway, but I digress).

Point is, hate about Corrin doesn't come from people who want him but have to pay, in whose case your reasoning applies. It comes from people who do not want him in the game at all, for reason you read in this topic already. But the only good thing about DLC is that it is OPTIONAL. I'm not forced to pay for it if I don't want it. If Corrin had been an unlock in Smash4 people would hate on him even more, that's the point I was trying to convey.

Corrin, on the other hand, I can just forget about and at most he will show up in online.
