I'm not sure, but some actually do it for the fun of it. Like the Cardboard Gundam dude(s). But I guess its just a Fangirl/Fanboy thing.

I haven't met one who has taken it seriously, like it was srs f*** bsns and I will die if I take it lightly. I dunno, maybe they just like dressing up.

I can understand that. I can even understand them spending hundreds on it. It's their hobby, like me buying and playing video games. Hell, I spend thousands a year on games. Some of them are actually fun people. I don't cosplay though, that would require wearing a wig and I have long hair.
