http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-10882769It seems rather dreadful, but the British rabbit population also survived the massive outbreak of myxomatosis (despite selfish morons spreading the disease in the hope to decimate the population). With myxomatosis being a rabbit disease (I urge you not to Google it for images, it's pretty disgusting). Some might resist and refound their populations. 20 years can be a long time. As long as there are no idiots killing the bats on purpose, it doesn't have to be that glum.

s***, without the bats Vegas would be swarming with all sorts of bugs. I, for one, hope these things survive.

It seems to particularly affect one species of bats this badly. I'm not sure what species lives or live around Vegas.

I wasn't speaking of any specific bats.

It seems there are multiple species living nearby, amongst whom the big brown bat. http://www.lvwash.org/html/being_done_r ... _bats.html

If you walk around suburban Vegas past about six, you'll see all sorts of bats.

Try to catch one!
More seriously, if there are all sorts of bats, you don't have to worry about the flying gnats.

That's why I like them.
I do know how to catch a bat, all you have to do is put a baseball in a sock and smack 'em in the head. It knocks them out cold, but I've never killed one that way.

I have been told the trick of throwing a jacket when they fly over you is a good way.

Go out into the countryside some more. Middlesbrough might possibly not be not a great place for bats, but maybe you can see some in the evening at a waterside. http://www.nybats.org.uk/

Eastern Russia has a ton of bats. We had an actually bat infestation in our cottage. It was frightening.

Same here, if you go to the right spot. I have seen a couple of bats flying in my garden though.
