Going off of history, they've been going off of japanese release dates. Yoshi's New Island gets released in Japan in summer, but I hope he gets revealed sooner.

If Sakurai reveals Yoshi on March 14-15, it will be among the first updates that conmemorate a western release, too bad Yoshi's New island still has no Japanese release date. But there's still some hope for Yoshi to get reveal earlier than that, how? Nintendo hasn't said a thing about Yoshi's Wii U game, Yarn Yoshi, so we could asume that Yoshi could be revelaed in a Nintendo Direct if there is involvement of Yarn Yoshi, Sonic got revealed that way, well that's my guess.
