True Faith - New Order

I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

I have lived every day of my life
Thinking only of what I should think
When I read back at everything
That I have written
On how I lived my life

And in the process of doing so
I have started the chance to feel alive
Just to stay an observer of an impartial observer

Here I go again. I'm chasing my tail around the sun
Standing beneath a tortoise under an elephant under the world
The gravity of the battle means nothing to those at peace
I can't believe I thought my thoughts meant anything

Every Time I Die - Turtles All The Way Down
equal parts nonsensical and sweet

Waifu: I'm married
Shower in the dark day
Clean sparks diving down
Cool in the waterway
Where the baptized drown
Naked in the cold sun
Breathing life like fire
I thought I was the only one
But that was just a lie

Cuz I heard it in the wind
And I saw it in the sky
And I thought it was the end
I thought it was the 4th of July

Pale in the flare-light
Scared light cracks and disappears
And leads the scorched ones here
And everywhere, no-one cares the fire is spreading
But no-one wants to speak about it
Down in the hole
Jesus tries to crack a smile
Beneath another shovel load

And I heard it in the wind
And I saw it in the sky
And I thought it was the end
I thought it was the 4th of July
Heard it in the wind
And I saw it in the sky
And I thought it was the end
I thought it was the 4th of July
July
July

Now I'm in control
Now I'm in the fallout
Once asleep but now I stand
And I still remember your sweet
Everything
Light a Roman candle
And hold it in your hand

Cuz I heard it in the wind
And I saw it in the sky
And I thought it was the end
I thought it was the 4th of July

reviving this thread huh?

been really obsessed with Manic Street Preachers lately who apparently weren't always a pretty standard, uninteresting britpop band like i assumed and were at one point, for one or two albums, a highly impassioned, energetic punk-inspired group with wonderfully composed lyrics about wholesome family subjects including: mental illness, substance abuse, self-harm, eating disorders, prostitution, consumerism, imperialism, serial killers, child sexual exploitation, hitler, anti-political correctness, and more! hell, even their obligatory white guilt song is beautifully written. great band! fun for the whole family!

it rules that a song with these lyrics portraying nazi war crimes so graphically, for example, was released on a major label album in 1994: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/manicstr ... fevil.html

shame their tortured genius lyricist is probably dead now, but i guess he's at peace.

Fall Of Efrafa - The Fall Of Efrafa
[lyrics]

hard to choose a single FoE song honestly. you can pick any of their tracks and find something great, but i particularly like this one because knowing it's the "end" of the story makes the lyrics stand out a lot more.

i can't really think of a better way to describe it so i guess i'll just call FoE a "concept band", because they made 3 albums based around Watership Down and disbanded after releasing the third one.
chronologically, this would be the final song.
i'm gonna take the easy way out and link their wikipedia page because it's a lot easier than describing it myself, and probably more detailed, but even without all that concept s*** it's a pretty damn good track that i'd recommend highly. if you're a fan of post metal and/or crust punk, that is

Too many quotable lines but...

"My rap position, was black condition, and activism
Ammunition for abolition, missions attacking systems
But they're not apt to listen, unless it's dropping on Activision
Are we apps, or are we bodies filled with apparitions?
Operating applications, stuck inside an Apple prison
Chicken hack, and download updates that lack religion
Or are we more..."

I'm a sucker for internal rhymes so Mural by Lupe Fiasco is just another reason to love his lyricism.
