he isn't annoying but I can see how you would get that impression
I mean he does some really bad skits from time to time but what his imitators didn't realize is that you can't just say bad words at game for instant funnies. AVGN is a genuinely charming dude
I definitely wouldn't start watching his stuff if I only discovered it today but that's just because like you said he's the protoype

avgn is good because it's clearly a character he's playing and james is a nice dude
also a lot of his stuff - at least at the start - was about games he played as a kid. games in general were way worse back then and bad games in general suck a lot more when you're a kid and limited to what your parents can buy you/what you can rent. he talked about some obscure bad s***, not Sonic 06 Bad
but then talked about sonic 06 eventually anyway lol

yeah, i kinda don't like it when he takes suggestions on what bad games to review because most of the time he dips into unfamiliar territory and it's a bit awkward sometimes (sonic 06) although sometimes he makes gold when reacting (big rigs)
i love AVGN but most of the time i find myself watching James Rolfe's videos on talking about movies and cinema/tv as he's so darn charming when talking without acting and stuff
I think my favorite is when he made a video called "Power Rangers - A noob's review" and how he had a history with the show thinking it was probably cheesy and ignored it and years later regretting not watching it because all the rubbersuit monster stuff would have clicked perfect with his young self

dude i love when a guy is reviewing this game/show and it cuts in the middle with supporting characters saying "you have to beat this evil game, finish the review" and it never gets picked up afterwards
