I'm not sure if this can be done, so please bear with me:
Why not add a numeration tag? If you are trying to enumerate something, shouldn't it be easier?

For example:
You want to enumerate a list of events, and they are plentiful: 20, lets say. Then when you begin enumerating, you press the "numeration tag" and you type 1) (or 1.) and everytime you press enter, the number that precedes it follows.

All you want is a list with numbers?

How about you forget aesthetics and just use the list tag.
