As you probably know, I've brought the concept of Item Standard Play to the MG Forums, and I intend to study its viability. Therefore, I need data. To get data, I need people. And to get people, I am hosting an Online Tournament.

Once the tournament starts, a new thread will be opened to manage the progression.

The tournament will begin on Friday, August 22 at 5:00 PM EST, assuming the servers are stabilized by that date. Postponing may still be possible.

• GENERAL:
  • The number of combatants and the start date is flexible. I will determine a date after there are at least 16 entrants.
  • Please list your McLeodGaming Network name if you wish to enter. You will not be counted as registered until you do.
  • Matches are unscheduled, but any combatants that wait for more than 24 hours after their turn starts will be disqualified. Exceptions will be provided to those facing server trouble, depending on the situation.
  • The bracket is Double Elimination. Starting bracket position for each player will be decided by http://www.random.org, and entry number will be given in the order you applied.
  • Sets are played 2 out of 3, save for the finals, which are 3 out of 5.
    • Names will be required during the matches for the sake of verification.
    • Replays will be required to be attached in a post preferably by the loser after each match is completed. Failure to save a replay is strictly prohibited and may be disputed by the winner. The winner is strongly encouraged to save a replay as well in case the loser "accidentally" "forgets", and a replay upload that is disputed by one of the players will be discussed.
    • The filenames in the replays must be clearly identifiable by what players were participating and what match number in the set it was. A sample filename of the preferred format would be Saikyoshi_Vs_Randomplayer5834(1).ssfrec, with the number in parentheses indicating the match in the set.
  • Four stocks, eight minutes.
  • Matches may be replayed if both players agree, for reasons such as a high amount of lag or accidental failure to save a replay.
  • Violations such as pausing or otherwise must be reported to me via PM. Players found guilty of foul play will be disqualified.
  • As the TO, I am not eligible to compete.
  • Keep in mind that all replays will be uploaded in one uncut compilation video on YouTube after the tournament is completed.
  • Unfortunately, I am unable to provide a prize to the winners. Please understand.
  • As the TO, I hold the right to change the rules at any time.
  
  
• STAGES
  • This tournament will use the Back Room's existing list. Stage Striking will be done via PM, and transcribed by quoting and posting onto the thread.
  • If stages where both hazard switch positions are allowed are chosen, whether the Hazard Switch is ON or OFF will be decided by one final strike.
  • Dave's Stupid Rule (no stages that have already been played in that set can be counterpicked) does apply.
  • Stage bans do apply.
  • Counterpicks will be announced publicly on the thread, preferably in the same post as the replay is uploaded.
  • For the sake of easy reference:

  • As this is to preliminarily test the viability of Item Standard Play, the preliminary ISP rules will be followed as detailed in that thread.
  • Items will be set to Low in all matches.
  • There are no item counterpicks as a system hasn't been determined yet.

Although I don't think the loser will want to post a replay of failure, if a person rage quit (just outright left after losing) then he might decide not post.

That rule's so one of the combatants don't forge a match against a CPU and claim that they won. There's little reason to forge a match where you lose.
I'm allowing the winner to upload in case the loser ragequits or "accidentally" "forgets" to save a match.
