I don't know. Does Smash really need a second form of Mario? Even Young/Toon Link felt like a stretch or unneeded in Melee/Brawl. I just think; if you could only put one Mario character in, I rather put Bowser Jr. before Paper MarioNot in Smash Bros. silly. Just the idea. But that's not what bothers me, I think you could pick a better retro representative.

May I ask, what made you guys think Takamaru over anyone else?

I feel considering his history with Nintendo and Sakurai, and considering the original way he'd handle the sword it makes him a pretty strong contender for the next game.

Him making large inclusions in Brawl in the form of a sticker and music, plus Takamaru's Ninja Castle. Plus I'm still convinced he's the main character in Sakura Samurai. He's clearly being brought back in some form or another.

Same could be said for Balloon Fighter, though. Maybe we'll get two retro reps?

Young and Toon Link are essentially different Links with the same general moves. Paper Mario has much different abilities from Regular Mario and would be a completely different character.

While I myself would have prefered an in between Link rather than a fast and slow, they are still completely different. Toon Link is a heck of a lot faster than regular, who's a large amount stronger, along with countless other differences.

But yeah, Paper Mario is completely different any way you spin in, disregarding names.

That's not a very good reason to put Paper Mario in over any other Mario character. But Is he Needed? Smash Bros. tends to focus series representation but also characters represented in their Prime/Most recognizable state. Is there really a need to have Paper Mario as a playable, regardless of how differently he would play from Mario? Because even though Paper Mario is its own series, it's still within the Mario Universe/Franchise; so is Paper Mario the really the next best/most worthy character to help expand Mario in Smash? I don't feel so. It's like putting Yarn Kirby or Prime Samus in the game just because they would help represent Kirby's Epic Yarn and the Metroid Prime series? Does it make senses have multiple personas of the same character when the main version is already/going to be a playable character?

And I'm starting to think the same about Young/Toon Link. Was he ever truly needed to be playable? If him not coming back could mean someone like Ghirahim or someone else from Zelda could be playable, then I would be all for that.
But Balloon Fighter (arguably) is more well-known, but he kind of has a lacking potential for an interesting moveset.

EDIT: Oh. And I voted for Geno. All the way down to Isaac (15) seem like good picks (Other than maybe Takamaru) seem like good picks to me. Bomberman would be cool and Palutena would be hot, so mostly good picks. For Void, I think everyone under Toon Link (12) kind of have some wild chances. Shulk and Mac would be awesome characters though. For Tid, I got to Ghirahim (13) but I feel like Lucas will be replaced by someone else from Mother/EarthBound and Krystal is just, lol. If StarFox were to somehow get a 4th rep, it would mostly be her; though Japan is not much of a fan of her. Meh, we need more female character and I guess it would be nice to have a StarFox character without a Spacies moveset.

If Paper Mario is in much need of a rep, it's probably better to put the next big supporting/popular character from that series instead of putting Mario in again. (And again, regardless of how different his moveset would be from normal Mario)

Except that, y'know, the next logical Choice would be Paper Bowser since each game has a mostly different cast, and he would just be a lighter, more floaty normal Bowser. In essence, Paper Mario has kinda the same issue that Fawful does in that yes he's a cool idea, but that sub series isn't really needed to be in smash.

I get that, it's just that there's a point where you're taking SSB4 speculation too seriously and writing an eight-hundred character response as to why you think Paper Mario shouldn't be in the game is going past that.
