Ooh, changing the name to "Echo Fighter" to make some people not think they're clones! Hooray.
actually the idea is to emphasize that they're a separate consideration from the main roster and as such have different requirements for entry & creation

it's working

Maybe a bit too well. I'm seeing people now hoping more echo fighters get in. Which like, sure, fine, send in the clones if it's the only/best option (Lucina/Marth or Pit/Dark Pit) for new characters, but stuff like Dry Bowser as an echo of normal Bowser? Let's not.

Also surprised at no tux bowser or dry bowser bowser costumes, given how many they gave to other characters.

Ridley is great looking. He could have been slightly bigger. Like 2-3% bigger I think, but maybe he was and had micro adjustments like that already for balance reasons into the size he is now. The grab attack that slides you all the way across the stage and is a guaranteed fling off the side seems ridiculously strong. That paired with the 50% plus dazing attack is probably going to make him a super hype 2v2 character for partner combos. He seems comparatively light for being a large character? Having a glass juggernaut is a welcome addition.

I agree with the Echo Fighter thing, Sakurai has found a clever way to be more lazy. But at least they brought the Brawl characters back.

I also wanted Tux Bowser. Would have been perfect with his upright posture nowadays. (The cheese grater on cinderblock noises would still be unfitting though.)

I wonder why Young Link isn't considered an Echo Fighter. I'm guessing adult Link got BoTW'd enough for him to be considered his own thing now

Same with Dr Mario, although assuming his moveset will remain the same from SSB4 I don't see much of a difference from regular Mario apart from his D-Air and D-Special (of course there's the different properties and aesthetics, but Echo Fighters have those differences as well)

yeah, laziness

sakurai, the guy who's literally complaining about regulations making him have to work less.

he's so f*** lazy. can't believe this s*** smh

if you had any idea of how much effort goes into making video games, you would never call anyone who works on them lazy. f*** off with this s***.

Less creative then? Echo Fighters are dumb anyway. Just call em clones!

His size for one. But in general o far all the echo characters have had similar models, animations, and weights, outside taunts. Young Link can be argued to have a similar model, just scaled down, but looking at Melee you can see he has different animations, and his speed and weight are different. From what I've seen 1 attack that is completely different like Doc's Down Special makes him not an Echo Fighter, though I think he has different physics too.

Yeah. From people who understand that clones provide some variation on the roster while taking basically zero effort to add

We have spent this entire page discussing why the term "echo fighter" is a good thing

Anyway here are some cool echo characters: Funky, Slippy, Shadow, Akuma, Medusa

Uh I mean they still have to sculpt the model/unique face rigs, include voice clips (or even have the character voiced from the ground up if they don't want to re-use excisting voice clips), model trophies for the character, do unique effect work if that applies and a s*** ton of debugging that an extra character brings as a variable (peach on battlefield may not thrown an error or a bug but daisy might).

Less effort is applicable, zero effort.. not so much.

ya sure but that sort of work is a drop compared to an actual character

An echo doesn't have to worry about the base design/considerations on what makes them a unique character, literally hundreds of animations, programming for potentially unique moves or balancing at all (since their balancing will just be relative to their base char)

Not to mention since the echo characters aren't a big deal they don't have to create a huge budget-eating CG trailer for them

My point is that you can probably add like 20 echoes before that amount of work might start to approach what you would've done for a single full character

Best part about Smash Ultimate is the fact that Link can pick up his arrows and throw them with his hands.

Topping that will be pretty hard.
