iunno how far you guys are into character development but there was an interview with French Bread:

First of all, we think of the general type the character will be in terms of an average fighting game character (balanced, power-based, ranged-attack focused, etc.) and from there the designers create a basic full-bodied sketch. The next stage involves deciding on what motifs should be present. Waldstein for example, has "a huge body and claws", Yuzuriha has a "long Japanese sword". We consider what sort of image to push with the character, and after that we think of what kinds of attacks and animations to use.


since i'd imagine the users of MG don't care enough to have their mega-cool original character be 1:1 with their original selves, you might wanna consider this c:

perhaps base fighting style -> slightly altered version of fighting style (for the most universal example here, think Smash, where both Link, Robin, and Mega Man are really different zoners) -> general attack design -> character design


another thing i thought of is meshing the user's personality or works with their fighting style if you can find a way. one example i thought of is maybe Tid having an RNG-based moveset that involves trying to find strategic ways to use the random items. think tetris; random blocks, but you can always see what's coming next and you can plan with it. the closest fighting game examples i can think of are Platinum from BlazBlue and Teddie from P4A (moreso Platinum due to how unique her items are compared to each other), but a little more planned-out.

its halted for a bit while im learning how to be a better software engineer in school, but im still gonna be working on it when i have the time

recently i started programming recreationally again. at the moment im working on tools to make development of the game a lot easier with hopes that i can show off more content in a less amount of time (if my peeps are still willing to help me, of course)
