He also apparently doesn't seem to know that having 4 mains and 7 secondaries isn't possible.

I feel like :pikachu: 's jab is broken in doubles (even if you try to DI out cause someone can hit back into to it).

I'm probably about to be told it's not broken for w/e reason (I know :lloyd: has an infinite too).

All one character infinites tend to be worse in doubles because your partner can break the combo.

At this point, I feel that Pikachu is not that fun and (as many people have noted) not well-designed.

Zalozis wrote:
You can Shield DI away or in passed Pika.

On another note: I think Pika is under-utilized. He's not "free" as v0.9b, but still has really good rushdown and mix-ups to approach. But I think he suffers from more of the same, "better/easier characters to use competitive." Not much of reason to want to use him when you get all your offensive-style needs from Fox, Falco, Lloyd, Meta-Knight, etc.

On the surface, I agree. Pika's rushdown per se is pretty good. His aerials seem to link together well due to the changes to the game physics. I'm also glad that they gave uair more range, since this gives Pika more offensive and defensive capabilities (uair OOS is a lot better, now). The new ftilt feels nicer, as well.

However, Pika's grab game is not as strong as it was in 0.9b. This severely diminishes the benefits of his rushdown capabilities. If Pika tries to shield pressure the opponent, the other player can simply camp shield; and if Pika gets a grab, he will not be able to get a strong punish off it (fthrow/dthrow/bthrow lead into nothing and uthrow-->aerial only works at low percents and on fastfallers). Fox, on the other hand, has strong shield pressure AND an excellent grab game.

More importantly, the nerfs to the throws also made Pika's mixup game much less interesting. In 0.9b, Pika's throws were useful against DI mixups, and they forced the opponent to have a good presence of mind to DI the proper way. For instance, at early percents (vs Marth), Pika's bthrow led into usmash against DI in; no-DI/DI-up led into aerials; and DI-down/away led to a loss of space, a tech chase, or a dash-up dtilt (as a pseudo-combo). Pika could also do some tricks with fthrow (DI away at early percents can lead into JC usmash against an unready opponent). In Pika's current BETA state, the yellow rat is unable to do these kinds of throw mixups--opponents do not feel as threatened by any of Pika's throw options, since they lead into either small damage or NOTHING. The removal of the throw minigames from Pika's kit makes Pika less exciting to play.

Now, I don't think that Pika's throws should be as free as they were in 0.9b (especially dthrow-->usmash). But I do think that his throws deserve some love. I wish that uthrow had a little more hitstun so Pika could reliably do uthrow-->nair on Marth-weight characters from 0%-120% percent (like in melee). I don't think that that two-piece combo is game-breaking (versus Fox's uthrow-uair), and I am sure that performing the combo will make Pika's combo game feel satisfying.

I will also say that Pika's uair hitboxes and launch angles need some attention. Pika's current uair is not that strong of an edgeguarding tool.

Throughout the smash series, Pikachu is known for being a fast character with decent combos and excellent edgeguarding tools. But all of the nerfs to Pikachu virtually knocked him out of his niche, so I don't view him as particularly special. Numerous characters outclass Pikachu in the edgeguarding department (Peach, Jigglypuff, and even a handful of mediocre characters) while also possessing a good--if not better--recovery. His current tjolt is only as good (if not worse) as the Mario Brothers' fireballs. And his vertical killing potential is a weaker form of that of Fox.

Maybe QA makes Pikachu a little special. But the current QA is only good for the occasional mixup such as FH fair-->QA-->aerial (I suppose that this a good design for QA, compared to the old QAC). Perhaps QA can be used to get flashy kills at very high percents, but this fact only capitalizes one of his main weaknesses--Pikachu has to win multiple times in neutral in order to take a stock, since his punish and killing power are not that great. (The only "buff" to Pikachu that I would consider significant is the OP priority of Tjolt [and other projectiles]. But Pika's lackluster strengths are vastly overshadowed by his weaknesses.)

In the end, the changes to QA are unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Instead, I would propose fixing Pika's main options so that Pikachu would nicely fit into his proper niche. I would like to see Pikachu be fun to play, instead of being either too weak or too strong. :pikachu:

Say, isn't Pikachu able to crawl in Brawl and Smash 4? So...why not SSF2 by now?

Am I the only one who thinks Pika's :pikachu: B-air should be using his tail for more range and usability (as well as making it more believable) as trying to hit it with his tiny feet is more difficult than I feel it should be, as the opponent basically has to be inside Pikachu :pikachu: for it to hit at all. Changing it to his tail would greatly improve the move, as well as his neutral, spacing etc. May even gain some strings and combos off it. Would probably co-main him if he had that

So I tried out back air as you said but I can only encounter the whiff problem and flat stages eg: Final destination, waiting room. But on stages with platforms however, you can quick attack cancel of ledges so you could land those B-airs. I don't have any combos to say specifically, cause usually I freestyle and it works out. It is definitely possible :pikachu:

Look, your sprites look hella good, ESPECIALLY the Fox one, but this isn't place to post this type of stuff, showcase your sprites in the Pixels & sprites section :pikachu:.

Anyway, back on the topic, I'm trying to main Pikachu and I'm currently learning how to play him and learn his techs, but I have a question, tell me a single reason to use B-air over F-air/D-air, no seriously, what's the point of Pikachu B-air?

Pikachu's bair is disjointed, making it more reliable for spacing and hitting recoveries like firefox. It's good for edge guarding in general because it has strong knockback and can be used when dropping from ledge. It's actually a lot like Falcon's bair, and can even be reversed like it. Overall, bair's mostly used like Falcon or Sheik's bair, as an edge guarding tool and combo extender.

Also Pikachu's new JC IS INSANE. You can even do a pseudo-waveshine (true combo) by repeatedly JCing into diagonally-down QA
